‘I hope this makes you smile’: Ed Sheeran sends touching video message to mother, 39, diagnosed with terminal cancer after seeing videos of her son singing his songs
- Ed Sheeran has reached out to a Kelly Dimmock with a touching video message
- He saw the mother-of-two had recently been diagnosed with terminal cancer
- Kelly’s son Chance began singing her Ed Sheeran songs after January diagnosis
- Ed sent a personal message to Kelly in a hope to raise her spirits
Kelly Dimmock, 39, from Brecon, Wales, was initially diagnosed with stage 3 ovarian cancer on January 15, before being told she had stage 4 gallbladder cancer later that month.
The terminal disease has now spread to her skin, liver and lymph nodes, and she is unsure how long she has left to live.
Following her diagnosis, Kelly’s son Chance began singing her Ed Sheeran songs on a daily basis, which were spotted by the singer on her Facebook, prompting him to reach out to her.
The Shape Of You star sent Kelly a special video message after spotting her story, which she shared to her Facebook on Wednesday.
Speaking directly to the camera, Ed is seen saying: ‘Hey Kelly, Ed here, I’m in Perth at the moment but I just heard your story and I’m just sending you a message to say wishing you lots of love and hope this makes you smile.’
His video was inspired after Kelly’s sister-in-law shared a number of heart-wrenching videos to Facebook, in which Karen’s son Chance sings her an Ed Sheeran song every morning ‘to make her smile’.
Her diagnosis came after months of having her concerns ‘brushed aside’ by doctors who told her she was suffering from ‘anxiety’, before eventually agreeing to an MRI and blood tests.
The devastating diagnosis is another in a string of tragic events, which saw Kelly, who is mother to two children Beau, 10, and Chance, 4, with army husband Dave, losing their nine-day-old baby boy in 2005.
At the time they decided to get married a month after losing their son on a small budget.
Following the shock diagnosis and unsure of how long they have left, the couple are now keen to renew their vows in style, with Kelly’s sister-in-law Meghan setting up a Just Giving page.

Kelly said: ‘When I first got diagnosed last month I cried and cried. I felt like my whole world had been pulled from underneath me. Then Chance started singing me Ed Sheeran songs.
‘We joked and I told him that maybe if he learnt the words to the song Perfect that Mummy’s friend Ed would come have a cup of tea with him.
‘Well since then, as soon as Chance thought I was sad or saw me cry, he sings it. He melts my heart, he is so beautiful and innocent and at just four-year’s-old doesn’t understand this awful horrible disease is going to take me away from him.’
Speaking of the video message she said: ‘I couldn’t believe it when my husband woke me up the other day to say my messages to Ed Sheeran had got through and that Ed Sheeran had messaged me.
‘Wow, I’m so, so happy. Thank you all for the love and support. Each and every one of you that have liked, shared and commented have helped make this happen.’
Kelly’s Just Giving page set up by her sister-in-law tells how she is hoping to organise a wedding for Kelly and Dave very soon.
The page reads: ‘Kelly is 39 years old and has 2 young children aged 4 and 10, she lost her little boy at just 9 days old. Kelly and Dave decided to get married quickly (15 years ago), just a month after they lost their baby – it was on a very small budget and not the dream wedding she’d hoped for.
‘We do not have a date yet, but we need to organise it within the next couple of months as we do not know how long Kelly has left.
‘Please help us give them one last special day to remember and give her the day she deserves.’
