Dustin has been with Sierra for a little over two years but the two have known each other since they were young. They had dated in middle school but had lost touch until Sierra walked into the Steak and Shake that Dustin was working in. The two have been inseparable ever since.
Dustin is now in hospice care as he knows his days are numbered. Doctors say he has just around three weeks to live.
Of their upcoming nuptials, Sierra told Daily Mail: “I’ll be forever grateful for this, it is going to be a blessing. I’m extremely excited.”
Despite the circumstances, Sierra remains optimistic about the time they have left and plans to make the most of being husband and wife.
When Dustin’s sister, Brittany Hails, who lives in Jacksonville, found out about his last wish, she created a GofundMe account to get donations for the wedding. She also sent out a Facebook post, asking for help.
She said the community came together, buying Dustin a tux and Sierra a wedding dress. They were provided rings, a cake, a photographer, decor, tables and food to make the day perfect.
“The experience has been amazing,” Brittany told News4Jax. “My brother will have an amazing day.”
“He really wants to marry the woman that has stuck by his side through all the sleepless nights, and now dealing with knowing he will pass anytime soon,” Brittany told the website. “Dustin always said, ‘She is a keeper.'”
LifePath Hospice is also donating the flowers and bridesmaid dresses for the wedding.
